Coloray is the boundary pushing creative moniker from electronic artist, Raynor De Groot. The world first got to know Raynor as one half of Tunnelvisions, a dance-project that toured around Europe since 2017 and were known for their emphatic productions on the likes Solomun’s DIYnamic imprint as well as Moscoman’s Disco Halal label. In 2019 Raynor went solo under the name Coloray. He had immediate success with a collaborative single alongside Eagles & Butterflies. 'Can't Stop' became a dance floor anthem, getting played by underground darlings like Four Tet and Hunee, to mainstream powerhouses like Dixon, Âme, Solomun, Adriatique and many more. The track ended up topping the charts, staying at the first place on Beatport months on end, getting chosen by Pete Tong as 'Essential New Tune' and staying on top of the Shazam charts in Ibiza.
2019 saw Coloray release his six-track debut EP, titled ‘Real Life Cinema’ via Atomnation. The package displays his artistic evolution, where captivating lyrics, throbbing bass line arrangements and raw vocals dictate the pace of things. The project marked a new sound, making way for a rawer aesthetic on modern day dancefloors. Soon after, Coloray expanded his horizons, with the release 'Gazing Eyes' on Innervisions thundering dancefloors as part of their Secret Weapons compilation, and his 'Romantics' EP being championed on the well-respected Permanent Vacation label.
In the midst of the pandemic, Coloray took his artistry to the next level with his audiovisual music concept ‘Future Static’. The album was released on Intercept x Atomnation, accompanied by a new live show and virtual world at the core of it all. Sonically it stood alone, ignoring genre norms, instead drawing on elements from Ambient, EBM, Techno, House, and Disco, to create his own sound. The futurist project was completed with the launch of the Virtual Space, a virtual reality app which acted as a portal to a new world with a 3D recorded performance of Coloray integrated. He personally took charge of the 3D design, art direction and performance of the groundbreaking project.
Riding a wave of momentum, Coloray has caught the attention of media outlets across the globe, including Wonderland, METAL, Magnetic, Coeval, Noctis, Ransom Note and more. Whilst his own record label Intercept Records keeps expanding with a wide variety of talented artists gaining the support from BBC Radio 1 & 6, Modeselektor, Call Super, Ben UFO, Or, &ME and Dixon to name a few.
Over the last year Coloray has released numerous singles on DGTL Records, Atomnation, and Intercept, as well as collaborating with Massimiliano Pagliara and Fort Romeau on ‘Reset’. He also collaborated with Terr on the track ‘Final Dance’ which was released on Erol Alkan’s Phantasy imprint earlier this year. He debuted an explosive, mind-bending A/V live show at DGTL Amsterdam in April 2023 which took thousands of ravers on a psychedelic trip. With each project his artistry elevates and a loyal fan base continues to grow. With his new album on the way and a live tour across Europe, featuring shows at Lowlands, Sziget and Fusion, 2023 is lining up to be the year where Coloray cements his vision of becoming the genre-bending artist of the future.
